Top of any list would have to be Myst at Maya Mall, Nimmanhaemin. Located atop the iconic Maya Mall, Myst is a trendy rooftop bar that combines modern elegance with a touch of chic – wrapped up in breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Sip on one of their signature cocktails crafted with precision by the highly skilled bartenders while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere. The friendly staff and comfortable seating make Myst my favorite place to unwind and enjoy the city lights. There is live music on the weekends, the bar is open until late, and the bar staff are expert mixologists!

2. Mai the Sky Bar – Melia Hotel

A very close second is Mai the Sky Bar perched high up on the 22nd floor of the prestigious Melia Hotel. This hidden gem boasts exclusivity in a cosy and intimate setting while offering spectacular views over the Ping River. With its warm and welcoming vibes, Melia Hotel is the ideal spot for unwinding after a day of exploring.

3. Xanadu Pub & Restaurant – the Furama Hotel

Hot on any list of the best rooftop bars in Chiang Mai is Xanadu Pub & Restaurant at the Furama Hotel on Huay Kaew Road. So good! There’s a great mix of people – locals and expats alike – and a chilled atmosphere. Stay for dinner and you won’t be disappointed!

4. YaYee Hotel

One of my personal favorites is the rooftop at the YaYee Hotel, Nimman. Serving up some of the best cocktails in all of Chiang Mai with a relaxed vibe, you can’t go wrong finishing your day at YaYee.

5. Thapae Grill

Already very well known in Chiang Mai, Thapae Grill is the place to be as the sun sets over the city! And it’s only going to get better… Thapae Grill’s undergoing a makeover at the moment, but keep an eye on their socials because you won’t want to miss this hot spot! Perched above the popular Thapae Road, this rooftop oasis offers an inviting atmosphere with a menu that caters to all tastes. Indulge in mouthwatering Thai delicacies while enjoying the lively buzz of the surrounding area. With its prime location and scrumptious food, Thapae Grill is a must-visit destination for foodies and rooftop enthusiasts alike.

8. Upper Deck

The Upper Deck inside the Old Town on Sriphun Soi is truly a hidden gem! Wind your way up the staircase from Sriphun Soi to discover an unparalleled view view of all the Wats in the Old Town! This unpretentious establishment – tucked away in the north-eastern fringes of the Old Town – is an intimate and cozy. Sit and sip a cool drink as you watch the hustle and bustle of the streets below and the fascinating Wat Chedi Luang. On a clear evening you can also see Wat Pratat Doi Suthep on the city’s famed mountain across the city. Wow!! So grab a few friends – or a good book – and enjoy the sunset from Upper Deck.

9. Plunge Pool Bar

Plunge Pool Bar at Le Meridien Hotel on Changklan Road near the Chiang Mai Night Market. Although Plunge is undergoing renovations at the moment, do keep it in mind for next time because the views over Doi Suthep at any time of day – but particularly sunset – are stunning. The rooftop bar offers all the usual selections of cocktails and cool drinks, as well as some seriously scrumptious snacks!

10. Woods Bar

If you’re looking for somewhere hip, happening, casual, and well priced, Woods Bar – opposite Maya Mall in Nimman – is the place to be. Possibly attracted by the well-priced drinks and snacks, Woods Bar is popular with university students. It also offers a great selection of local craft brews, and features local DJs each weekend (and sometimes during the week, too). Open 6pm-midnight daily.

11. NORI Sky Terrace

NORI Sky Terrace in Nimman has become synonymous with superb sushi and sunset drinks at an affordable price. What an awesome spot to unwind after a big day out – fresh, handmade sushi and a long cold drink! Situated on the 5th floor at Nimmanhaemin Soi 5, the NORI Sky Terrace is easy to find – but difficult to leave! 🙂 I’ve spent a lot of time in Nimman, and NORI’s one of my faves. Opens just before 6pm each evening and stays open until midnight.

  1. Thank you! Chiang Mai really is beautiful and, as you can see, there are so many great places to go for sunset 🙂
    Are you planning to visit Chiang Mai? Bear in mind that it’s “burning season” at the moment (November until about April) and the air quality has been quite low.
    However, burning season is also the coolest time of year (although still warm!), and when there are various annual festivals.
    So basically any time you visit is a good time!
